About Me

I built my career in marketing and in business step-by-step from Receptionist to Chief Brand & Strategy Officer and Entrepreneur.

I got my start in marketing in the music industry in NYC, my birthplace. In addition to music publishing, I worked on the record label side at RCA Records, Island/Def Jam, and Bad Boy Records. After the music industry I went on to work in advertising at an award winning multi-national advertising agency, one of the largest in the world, and where I worked on and oversaw brand campaigns for global brands such as The Coca-Cola Company (managing multiple brands across 90+ countries), Levis, Wendy's, L’Oréal Cosmetics and others. Here, is where I started to learn and understand business in a broader way.

As a Vice-President, I then ran an award-winning experiential marketing agency overseeing teams nationally here in the U.S., building and operating the NYC office, and launching and overseeing campaigns for brands such as Guinness, HBO and Smirnoff, and on brand campaigns and platforms in the U.S and internationally.

In 2013 I launched my brand, strategy & entertainment marketing consulting firm – lanier global group. where, collaborating with another agency, I launched with American Express as one of my first consulting clients.

More recently I've had clients such as NBC Universal, USA Network, Luxury Fashion Designer Delvin McCray from Season 18 of Bravo TV's Project Runway and 2021's Project Runway Redemption, 1942 (Don Julio Tequila) - a brand I originally began working with over 10 years ago, and Stability AI - a leading generative AI (Artificial Intelligence) company that launched in the fall of 2022. I also served as Chief Brand + Strategy Officer for the start-up production company of Golden Globe and Emmy Award winning TV and Film Director, Anthony Hemingway, who had formerly been a client of mine.

I was born in the Bronx, NY, raised in Spanish Harlem by a single father, ran away from home at the age of 16, barely got through high school, and dropped out of college. I began my career journey as a self-taught marketer out of my love of verbal and visual storytelling (music and songwriting, music videos, album covers, magazines, and commercials, at the time), and without fully realizing at first that it was, in fact, a career that I was building. All I knew was that I had a burning desire to know how things worked behind the scenes. To know who did these things, and to find out how I could be one of them; To be one of the people behind the people and things I enjoyed watching and listening to growing up. I've now had a 20 year marketing and brand building career and more than half of that also as a business leader. I am 10 years into my own entrepreneurship journey as of June of 2023, and in June 2021 I completed Cornell University's program for Women's Entrepreneurship.

I absolutely love what I get to do for work creatively and in business in all of its evolving forms. There is nothing else I'd rather be doing. I've been blessed, but I have also been very intentional with my life - I chose this career path and it continues to choose me back in increasingly rewarding ways. Me having the desire and ability to create this course is one of those ways. At this point in my journey I can truly say that everything has led me here - everything has been connected and has prepared me for what I am doing now and what I will do next. NOTHING has been for nothing. Indeed, I am convinced that my entire life's journey, no matter how daunting it may have been at times, has fully equipped me to offer what I do as only I can.

I define a brand as a promise. By this I not only mean the promise you absolutely need to be able to deliver on when you have a product, service or offering, by this I mean that for each of us I believe our soul has a promise and a story for our life that is awaiting our direction...waiting to be awakened...so that we might become the person we are meant to become and fulfill our full human potential. For many of us creatives and entrepreneurs, this promise comes to life and is expressed through our business(es), product(s) or service(s) or, in other words, by sharing our uniqueness with the world through our businesses, products, and services. No matter how you think it looks when observing someone else's personal brand and journey from the outside, success and accomplishment don't happen in one quantum leap - they happen one step at a time.

Awaken the Brand is my existing brand development and brand marketing platform that I created in 2018, and that started with the idea for a 6-week live masterclass and then morphed into one-on-one coaching for smaller/individual entities - usually “influencers,” solopreneurs, and entrepreneurs who have a product or service in existence or ready to launch, and where I take them through the process of building and/or launching a brand, underscoring their role as the cornerstone of the foundation on which all their offerings firmly rely.

This inaugural 7-week online course is the newest addition to my Awaken the Brand by Suhailah™ platform. It has a focus on personal as well as business brand development, and is guided by spiritual intelligence. It stands apart from my brand, marketing, and strategy consulting services, and from my one-on-one coaching services.

My Why

I have been a brand marketer for 20 years now and I absolutely love what I get to do for work; I also like being of service and have always felt that it is my human responsibility to leave every person, place or thing better than when I found it - or when it found me.

As I was building my marketing career working for big and small companies, I didn't always have the choice to say yes or no to the music artists, brands, and projects assigned to me, and at the same time I also didn't always consume what I was asked to market and/or build. Still, I needed to be able to tell a brand story and connect it to audiences and, for that, I needed to feel emotionally connected to the artists and brands and/or the people behind them. In this way, I started to approach every project and brand client at the onset by first getting to know the person behind the product - from the beginning - whether it was a 260 year old brand like Guinness beer where I would never get to meet its founder, or an emerging recording artist with little or no known history about to make their debut.

In a way, I started to fall in love with the people behind the products thru the brand stories I would weave together from my research and getting to know them in person, whenever I had the honor to. This allowed me to approach what I do in a more emotionally intelligent and intuitive way, a more passionate way, and forge real connections with the people and brands I was responsible for leading, marketing and building.

I do what I do because I like helping people overcome obstacles and make their dreams come true, just the way I have experienced in my own life. I've lived it - am still living it now - and I believe this is part of my purpose, my reason for being. It brings me absolute joy to create and hold space for and witness others gain self-empowerment and take tangible steps towards their aspirations, and I feel incredibly privileged and honored to exist on this planet at this moment in time and to get to do this work while standing in the fullness of who I am. I also love the process of taking something from thought to "paper" to manifestation in the physical world. And so I created Awaken the Brand by Suhailah™ and now this 7-week online course under this umbrella, as an extension of my other services, and as a starting place for this process to take place. It is for creatives, entrepreneurs and any individual who feels stuck and unsure about what they stand for or where they're going, and/or are unclear as to who and how they are as a person...a human... connects to what they want to create in the world be that product or service.
